Biography

Personal Data & Education

The Late Col. S.A. Ayough was born on 16th January 1952 and hailed from Tse Ugo in Mgbagan Ugondo, Makurdi Local Government, Benue State.

He attended St. Thomosis, Kano, for his early education before proceeding to Offa Grammar School, Ilorin, where he obtained his WASSC in 1970.

He earned a B.Ed in Social Studies from Ahmadu Bello University (Bayero Campus), Kano.

Military Career

Col. Ayough enlisted in the Nigerian Army as a member of DRC Course 7 in 1981, commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Education Corps.

  • Senior Staff Course 21 – Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji (1999)

Selected Appointments Held:

  • Instructor, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) (1981–1985)

  • Instructor, Nigerian Military School (NMS) Zaria (1985)

  • Guidance Counsellor / SO2 Research / MA to DG, AHQ Directorate of Army Recruitment, Resettlement & Reserve (DARR/R) (1986–1990)

  • Documentation Officer, ECOMOG Liberia (1990–1991)

  • Commandant, Command Day Secondary School (CDSS) Ikeja (2000)

  • Director of Studies, NASE Ilorin (2001)

  • ADAE, HQ 3 Div Jos (2004) – Retired voluntarily in 2006.

Post-Retirement Career & Achievements

After retirement, Col. Ayough joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State and aspired for Chairman of Makurdi LGA (2011).

He later served as CSO at Uniagric Makurdi and obtained a PhD in Educational Management from the same institution.

  • Reputable Father of the Year – Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Makurdi (2018)

Family & Christian Life

A devoted Christian, Col. Ayough worshipped at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Makurdi Parish.

Late Col S. A. Ayough is survived by his wife Nnenna Ayough and six children and grandchildren.

Children: Tarnonge, Ashetsugh, Princess Ngolumun, Viashima, Ngunengen, and Nguamo Ayough

Grandchildren: Mwuese, Hembadoon, Torkwase, Ushahemba, Aondosoo, and Dooter Ayough
